Kyushu: Perfectly Located to Bridge the Skies and Seas of Asia

The focal point for air travel and transportation

Since ancient times, Kyushu, with its deep links to the other lands of Asia, has filled an important role as a center for trade with Japan. Today, every one of Kyushu's prefectures has at least one airport, and the island is connected to the other countries of Asia through direct flights to 17 different cities in the region. From Fukuoka Airport, the largest airport in Kyushu, flights to Tokyo and Seoul take just 70 minutes, while Shanghai is just 90 minutes away, and Taipei only two hours. From Kitakyushu Airport, Vladivostok, Russia can be reached in an easy two and a half hours. Kyushu's central location makes it the perfect focal point for air travel and transportation, both to domestic Japan as well as all other Asian commercial and production centers.

A major intersection for Asian sea routes

Sea routes from Hakata, the largest of Kyushu's ports, connect with key cities in Europe, the Americas and Asia. This port is also a crucial point of transfer for cargo between other Asian nations and Japan's economic centers, with the volume of containers handled in Hakata continuing to increase thanks to, for example, high-speed RORO ships1 that have been commissioned on routes to Shanghai, China and Busan, Korea. The transit time to Shanghai using SSE2 is only about 26 hours. Furthermore, by transferring cargo from China to rail and truck transport at the port of Hakata highly competitive logistics to every part of Japan can be achieved with reduced lead-time and costs.
As the perfect intersection for Asian sea routes, Kyushu offers highly convenient and competitive logistics to and from every part of Japan and the rest of Asia, while at the same time reducing lead-time and costs.

1

RORO is an abbreviation for Roll-on/Roll-off. RORO ships are designed to allow trailers and other vehicles to drive on and off without special loading equipment. RORO reduces distribution costs by allowing the transportation of greater volumes of cargo and efficient loading and unloading.

2

SSE is a high-speed RORO cargo ship operation that connects Shanghai and Japan.
