Philippines:Ilijan / Gas combined cycle IPP

A Ilijan map
Ilijan Project-Largest power plant using domestic fuels in the Philippines
The Ilijan Project is an NPC's IPP business for which Korea Electric Power (KEPCO) was awarded a contract in March 1996. Kyushu Electric participates in the project with an 8% investment, together with Korea Electric Power, Mitsubishi Corporation, Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) and Marubeni Corporation.
The project encompasses highly efficient combined cycle power generation using natural gas supplied by NPC and wholesale supply of the power in conformity with a 20-year power purchase agreement with NPC.
The fuel natural gas is supplied by Malampaya gas field, an offshore area of Palawan Island. The Ilijan power plant features the largest facility using domestic fuel in the Philippines. Viewed from a long-term aspect, the use of such domestic fuel is expected to improve the balance of foreign currency in the country.
