Court Rules on Requested Injunction against Restarts
at Sendai Nuclear Power Station(second instance)
(Kyushu Electric Power Prevails in Court)

At 10:30 a.m. today, Miyazaki branch of Fukuoka High Court handed down its decision on a request for an injunction against the restart of nuclear facilities belonging to Kyushu Electric Power.

The immediate appeal have been filed to Miyazaki branch of Fukuoka High Court on May 6, 2015 against an order, dismissal of a request for an injunction against the restart of Sendai Nuclear Power Units No.1 and 2, issued by Kagoshima District Court on April 22, 2015.

Kyushu Electric Power had asked the court to deny the immediate appeal. We had argued that the reactor facilities have secured safety against the standard seismic motion, and there is no concrete danger of release of large amounts of radioactive material by an accident.

Miyazaki branch of Fukuoka High Court investigated the plaintiffs’ assertion that operating these reactor facilities presented a concrete danger. The court, saying it did not find that the plaintiffs’ personal rights would be violated or in danger of violation, denied the injunction.

The decision means the court recognizes Kyushu Electric Power’s assertion that the Sendai Nuclear Power Station is safe. We believe the court made the correct decision.

Kyushu Electric Power will continue our voluntary initiatives to further enhance safety and reliability and will make every effort to ensure the safety of Sendai Nuclear Power Station.
