Application for approval of construction planning regrading newly installed buildings of Specific Safety Facilities for Sendai nuclear power station unit No.1 and 2

The application for permission for a change in reactor installation regarding Specific Safety Facilities (SSFs)* of Sendai nuclear power station unit No.1 and 2 was accepted on April 5th 2017.
Today, we submitted to NRA the application for approval of construction planning regarding "Newly installed buildings".
This application is related to large facilities like water injection pumps, an emergency control room and water tanks as well as new buildings, on which those facilities will be installed.

Applications for approval of construction planning will be submitted separately as below.

1. Facilities installed in a reactor subsidiary building
2. Newly installed buildings
3. Newly installed facilities

This is because that SSFs will have to be installed within the time required by laws, so construction needs to be implemented efficiently.

The application regarding "1. Facilities installed in a reactor subsidiary building" that will be implemented in a periodic inspection has already been submitted on May 24th (unit No.1) and July 10th (unit No.2), 2017. Also the application for approval of construction planning regarding "3. Newly installed facilities" will be submitted as soon as we get prepared.

We will make an effort to deal with the NRA's inspections respectfully and sincerely, as well as to improve safety and reliability of nuclear power stations.

*SSFs
They have a function to prevent damages of containment vessel. They are preparation in case cooling functions for nuclear reactor stop and a reactor core gets fatal damages due to terrorism such like an intentional collision of jumbo airplane toward a reactor support building. New regulatory requirements, which was enforced in July 2013, request to install them.
