Kyushu Electric Power Company Inc.
Occupational injury occurred in Reihoku Thermal Power Plant

Kyushu Electric Power Company received a notification from the relevant Labor Standards Inspection Office on December 11, 2006 that it was suspected that there was an unreported occupational injury occurred on the premises of Reihoku thermal power plant. The company thereafter has been looking into the case together with Nishinippon Plant Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (NPC), the prime contractor, and cooperated with the investigation by the Labor Standards Inspection Office.

As a result of the investigation, it was confirmed that there was a neglected accident which was not reported promptly to the Labor Standards Inspection Office, even though all the primary, secondary and tertiary subcontracting companies of NPC recognized the occupational injury occurred on October 23 rd , 2006 on the premises of Reihoku thermal power plant during the set up of scaffolds. It was also confirmed that the primary subcontractor made a false report to the Labor Standards Inspection Office regarding the site of incidence.

We sincerely take the fact that the occupational injury, which was to be reported by right under the contracts both between Kyushu Electric Power Company and NPC, and between NPC and each of those subcontracting contractors, has been neglected and left unreported. We will again provide thorough instruction in reporting upon the occurrence of accidents to the subcontracting companies through NPC.

Kyushu Electric Power Company will leave the legal verdict on this case up to the decision of the relevant Labor Standards Inspection Office.
