Development of Mega Solar Power Generation on Minato Power Station Site

Kyushu Electric Power Company Incorporated is actively stepping up the development and introduction of renewable energy including wind, solar, hydroelectric and geothermal power from the viewpoint of alleviating global environmental problems and utilizing domestic energy sources.

Kyushu Electric Power has decided to develop its first mega solar (large scale solar power generation system) on Minato Power Station Site in Omuta, Fukuoka. With an output of 3,000kW, it will be the largest solar power station in the Kyushu region.

Solar power generation, like nuclear power and hydroelectric power, entails no CO2 emissions in the process of power generation. The expected amount of CO2 reduction, therefore, is about 1,300 tons annually by introducing a 3,000 kW-scale mega solar system.

We will strive to realize low-carbon society through the development of renewable energy, purchases of power generated from new energy resources, and the cooperation with the Kyushu Green Energy Fund.

[Outline of mega solar development plan]
