Kyushu Electric Power Company and APPAK Limited Liability Partnership (APPAK) have signed a memorandum regarding the principal conditions on the sales contract of uranium concentrates with the presence of the leaders and ministers of both Kazakhstan and Japan in Republic of Kazakhstan on April 30th, 2007. Kyushu Electric Power is planning to start receiving uranium concentrates in 2011 based on this contract.
Based on the conditions agreed in this memorandum, Kyushu Electric Power and APPAK will further discuss for the conclusion of sales contracts.
APPAK was established in July 2005 aimed at the development of uranium mines in West Mynkuduk, Kazakhstan, and the production and the sales of uranium concentrates.
The shareholders of APPAK are National Atomic Company Kazatomprom*65%, Sumitomo Corporation 25% and Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. 10%.
APPAK will start commercial production of 1,000 tons (MTU) of uranium annually, all of which will be sold in the Japanese market.
