Improving the heat efficiency of thermal power plants, and reducing transmission and distribution loss contribute greatly to energy conservation. This leads in turn to saving of fuels used for power generation, and reduced CO2, SOx and NOx emissions. Kyushu Electric uses a combined cycle power generation system that combines gas and steam turbines, resulting in improving the heat efficiency of thermal power plants. In addition, Kyushu Electric reduces the transmission and distribution loss factor by boosting voltage levels.
Total thermal power plant heat efficiency at Kyushu Electric for fiscal 1999 was 40.4%, an improvement of 0.6 points over that for fiscal 1998. This improvement was brought about by boosting the operating factor of Shin-Oita Power Station (which employs combined cycle power generation), and using LNG more effectively. Our transmission and distribution loss factor is 5.6%, same as the previous year and one of the best levels in the world.
