Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. (“Kyushu Electric Power”; President & CEO: Kazuhiro Ikebe) and RENOVA, Inc. (“Renova”; Representative Director, President & CEO: Yosuke Kiminami) will carry out a survey on geothermal resource in the western side of Mt. The aim of this endeavor is to develop and install geothermal power generation, which can be a power source that excels in terms of using domestic energy and mitigating global warming.

We, Kyushu Electric Power and Renova have been proposing a geothermal resource survey to Unzen city, complying with Unzen City Ordinance Concerning the Protection and Utilization of Geothermal Resources. Following reports by the council of the city, we received the consent of the city on May 10, 2023.

We plan to conduct a monitoring survey on such areas nearby hot springs and perform surface surveys to identify subsurface structures after completing legal procedures.

The two companies will promote geothermal development efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
