Kyushu Electric Power, Co.
The ruling for the lawsuit seeking to halt operations at the Sendai Nuclear Power Plant has been delivered- Victory for Our Company and Japanese Government -
This case involves seeking the suspension of operations for Units 1 and 2 of the Sendai Nuclear Power Plant, with lawsuits filed against our company and the government spanning from the first lawsuit (May 30, 2012) to the twelfth lawsuit (July 31, 2019).
Until now, our company has sought the dismissal of the claims by demonstrating that the Sendai Nuclear Power Plant has enhanced safety measures based on the concept of multiple layers of protection, appropriately evaluated the impact of natural phenomena such as earthquakes and volcanoes, and ensured sufficient safety. Thus, we have argued that there is no specific risk of a serious accident that would infringe upon the plaintiffs' personal rights.
Today, the Kagoshima District Court dismissed the plaintiffs' claims, stating that there is no specific risk of a serious accident occurring at the Sendai Nuclear Power Plant.
We believe that today's ruling, which recognizes the assertions made by our company and the government, is an appropriate outcome.
Moving forward, we will continue to proactively and consistently pursue further improvements in safety and reliability, ensuring the utmost safety of our nuclear power plants.
