Kyuden Group to participate in a large-scale solar power plant and battery energy storage system (BESS) in Egypt -Our first power project in North Africa-

Kyuden International Corporation, a member of the Kyuden Group, is delighted to announce its participation in a large-scale solar power plant and battery energy storage system (BESS) in Egypt together with AMEA Power*1, a UAE-based renewable energy company, committed to achieving carbon neutrality. The project comprises a 1,000 MW solar PV plant combined with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Aswan Governorate, Egypt. The project is jointly owned by AMEA Power (60%) and Kyuden International Corporation (40%).

This is Kyuden Group’s first investment in power project in North Africa. With this latest participation, the Kyuden Group’s total equity output from overseas power projects worldwide will amount to approximately 2,783 MW*2.

The financing is led by International Finance Corporation (IFC), combining its own capital with funds mobilized from international partners, including Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank (FMO), Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG), British International Investment (BII), OPEC Fund for International Development, and Europe Arab Bank (EAB).

The Egyptian government is promoting the development of renewable energy, with a national goal to increase the share of renewables in its energy mix to 42% by 2030. Leveraging its advanced technological expertise and extensive experience, the Kyuden Group will continue to expand its operations globally, in pursuit of its “Kyuden Group Strategic Vision 2035” and “Carbon Neutral Vision 2050”.
