Court Decision to Dismiss the Appeal for the Temporary Injunction (filed in FY2011) against Genkai Nuclear Power Station Units 3 and 4 -Ruling in favor of Kyushu Electric Power-

On June 13, 2017, the Saga District Court dismissed a temporary injunction against the restart of Genkai Nuclear Power Station Units 3 and 4. The ruling was immediately appealed on June 23, 2017, and the Fukuoka High Court dismissed the appeal in this decision in favor of Kyushu Electric Power.

Kyushu Electric Power has sought the dismissal of the claim as the Genkai Nuclear Power Station has implemented sufficient safety measures against earthquakes and volcano eruptions, and plant pipes have been assessed and countermeasures implemented using the latest knowledge to secure their safety.

The Fukuoka High Court has dismissed the appeal with a statement that the Kyushu Electric Power's assessment of earthquakes, volcano eruptions, and pipes are reasonable and the Genkai Nuclear Power Station does not have any specific weaknesses that could lead to a severe accident.
Kyushu Electric Power considers this decision to be reasonable, reflecting our argument that the safety of Genkai Nuclear Power Station Units 3 and 4 has been secured.
We will continue to voluntarily and continuously implement initiatives to further increase safety and reliability and to take all possible measures to secure the safety of the nuclear power station.
