Kyushu Electric Power Company to Survey Geothermal Resources in Sarukuradake Area, Yanaizu Town, Fukushima -The Company's First-Ever Geothermal Resource Survey in Tohoku Region-

Kyushu Electric Power Company will survey geothermal resources starting late this month in and around Sarukuradake, located in Yanaizu Town, Fukushima (hereinafter "Sarukuradake area").

Previous results of survey done by national authority have shown that promising geothermal development resources likely lie under the Sarukuradake area, and accordingly, Kyushu Electric Power Company is to conduct a more detailed survey.

The company has been briefing local communities including Yanaizu Town since July this year and having gained their understanding, decided to launch into the detailed survey.

A surface survey will be conducted this fiscal year to identify the Sarukuradake area's subsurface structure. If survey results indicate subsurface structures that potentially contain geothermal resources, Kyushu Electric Power Company will prepare to drill an exploration well to confirm the resource while maintaining efforts to obtain the local communities' understanding.

To respond to global warming and effectively utilize domestic resources, Kyushu Electric Power Company will continue to proactively develop and introduce renewable energy.
