Formulation of Kyuden Group Carbon Neutral Vision 2050 -Kyuden Group Will Endeavor to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050-

Under the Kyuden Group Management Vision 2030 formulated in June 2019, and with the aim to achieve a low-carbon and sustainable society, the Kyuden Group has been leveraging renewable energy and nuclear power to reduce the carbon footprint of power sources and in addition is promoting the electrification of energy consumption.

Kyushu Electric Power currently leads domestic firms with a roughly 60% zero-emission/FIT power source ratio* (FY2019).

* The FIT ratio was 14% in FY2019. If a non-fossil fuel certificate is unavailable, FIT power is considered neither as a renewable energy nor as a source of zero carbon-emission energy, but is treated as a form of electricity that emits Japan's national average level of emissions, consisting of thermal and other energy sources as well.

While the Japanese government aims for a 46% reduction (compared to FY2013) in greenhouse gas emissions by FY2030, Kyushu Electric Power has nearly halved its carbon emissions (FY2019 results).

The government's pledge to go carbon neutral by 2050 has raised expectations for companies to promote decarbonization efforts as well as ESG management strategies.

Within this context, the Kyuden Group has declared its endeavor to achieve carbon neutrality and, as an effort revolving around energy supply and demand, it established the "Kyuden Group Carbon Neutrality Vision 2050" to lower the carbon intensity of or decarbonize energy sources, and to accelerate the shift toward electricity-based energy consumption.

Declaration to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050

Kyuden Group Will Endeavor to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050
-Starting from Kyushu, the Kyuden Group will lead the way to Japan's decarbonization-

Efforts to achieve carbon neutrality

Decarbonizing / lowering the carbon intensity of electricity sources We will stably supply net-zero emissions electricity through such efforts as further increasing the ratio of zero-emission energy sources
Promoting electrification We will strive to maximize the shift to electricity-based energy consumption and contribute to reducing demand side's emissions

Kyushu Electric Power will also launch the president-chaired Sustainability Promotion Committee in July 2021 to promote ESG-related endeavors, including steps for becoming carbon neutral.

Seeing responses to global warming as an opportunity for corporate growth, the Kyuden Group will, as a leader in low carbon/decarbonization efforts, aspire to serve as an enterprise group that spearheads Japan's decarbonization initiatives from Kyushu.
