Kyushu Electric Power Company to Conduct a Survey on Geothermal Resources in the Northern Area of Mt. Sensui (Kokonoe Town, Oita)

Kyushu Electric Power Company will carry out a survey on geothermal resources in the northwestern side of Mt. Sensui, situated in Kokonoe Town, Oita (hereinafter "Northern Area of Mt. Sensui") with view to develop and install geothermal power generation, which can be a power source that excels in terms of using domestic energy and mitigating global warming.

We have been proposing a geothermal resource survey to Kokonoe Town complying with the Town Ordinance on the Protection and Utilization of Geothermal Resources. Following reviews by the committee of the town, we received the consent of the town on March 10, 2022.

We plan to perform surface surveys to identify subsurface structures and conduct a monitoring survey on such areas as nearby hot springs after completing legal procedures. If survey results indicate a subsurface structure potentially containing geothermal resources, we will prepare drilling an exploration well to confirm the presence of geothermal resources.

We will promote geothermal development efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
