Kyushu Electric Power Company, Incorporated also commits to reduce scope 1 and 3 GHG emissions from all sold electricity 47% per MWh within the same timeframe.

Kyushu Electric Power Company, Incorporated further commits to reduce all other absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from fuel and energy related activities, and use of sold products 25% within the same timeframe.

Science Based
          Targets(SBT)

*The target boundary includes biogenic emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.

The energy sector recognizes that it has a key responsibility, as it plays a crucial role in enabling society to become carbon neutral, and this is reflected in the SBT certification as the energy sector is required to meet even stricter standards than other industries.
As a responsible energy provider with operations spanning retail and power generation, the Kyuden Group has set an ambitious goal of not only achieving net zero GHG emissions from its supply chain by 2050, but also taking further steps to achieve carbon negativity, which will greatly contribute to reducing GHG emissions across society.
The Kyuden Group’s has set ambitious targets and to have these reduction targets officially validated to be in line with the science-based target criteria is a major accomplishment.
As an industry frontrunner in decarbonization the Kyuden Group will continue to lead the transition toward a decarbonized society by driving initiatives both on the energy supply and demand side, which is centered on promoting electrification, as well as the decarbonization of energy sources. The Group commits to the realization of a sustainable society, while achieving both sustainability and corporate growth.

More info about SBTi
  • The SBTi is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Near-term (5-10 years) targets approved by the SBT are consistent with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement (i.e., to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C).
  • The GHG emissions that the SBT aims to reduce are:
    • Scope 1: Direct GHG emissions by the organization itself (e.g., fuel combustion, manufacturing process)

    • Scope 2: Indirect emissions associated with the use of electricity, heat, and steam supplied by other companies

    • Scope 3: Indirect emissions apart from Scopes 1 and 2 (Emissions from other companies associated with the activities of the operator)
