Kyushu Electric Power Company to Start Preparing for Construction of Geothermal Power Station in Kirishima City, Kagoshima (Mt. Eboshi Site, Kirishima)

Kyushu Electric Power Company will start preparing to construct a geothermal power station in the northeastern area of Mt. Eboshi, situated in Kirishima City, Kagoshima. The aim is to develop and install geothermal power generation, which can offer a power source that excels in effective domestic energy use and global warming mitigation.

In 1998, we identified geothermal resources at the Mt. Eboshi site after drilling an exploration well. Following a geothermal development promotion survey by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), we have been continuing surveys.
We have been proposing to install a power station by complying with an ordinance on power generation businesses using Kirishima City hot springs, and received consent of the city on April 14, 2022.

We will proceed with procedures necessary for constructing the power station, aiming to begin construction work in June 2023 and start to operate the power station by the end of fiscal year 2024.

We will promote geothermal development efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
