Electric equipment explained

Get to know your electricity meter

Standard electricity meter

The meter indicates the amount of electricity you have used in kWh (kilowatt hours). Each month a “meter reading” will be performed and the amount of electricity per month is calculated by subtracting the amount of last month’s reading from the reading for this month.

Time-of-use electricity meter

  1. Time-of-use
With a time of use meter your electricity use is charged at different prices during three different time periods.
The display shows the amount of energy used for each time period by refreshing every 5 seconds:
    1. Time period 1: Daytime (from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm)
    2. Time period 2: Early morning and evening (8:00 am to 10:00 am; 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm)
    3. Time period 3: Nighttime (10:00 pm to 8:00 am)
  2. Meter reading
    1. For each time period the amount of electricity used is shown at the bottom of the display.

Smart meter

  1. Meter reading
Smart meters digitally measure electricity usage and automatically send the measured data. The display will only show the accumulated amount of energy used up to now. Smart meters allow more flexibility in the use of rate plans. For a time-of-use plan, the energy will be measured for each time period and a detailed breakdown can be seen on the monthly “Notification of Electricity Consumption” slip.

*Note: By law, the meter will usually be replaced once every 10 years. When this construction takes place, we ask for your cooperation.
*Note: In cases where contracts do not go beyond 2 years, our company may remove the meter.
